Text

ashes drift
through the
air
raining on the
gathered
people waiting
in line
shivering
naked
the smell of
human fat
burning in
ovens that never
get turned off
there is no god
here

there are only
the wraiths
that slip in and
out of reality
while the pale
monsters bark
out orders in
a guttural language

taste the bitter
tears of the gathered
where the children
are flung into
walls
shattering into a
million pieces like
dolls
nothing but scraps
of flesh to be
cradled for one
last moment
and then thrown
away like
so much
garbage

the little girl
in red
lying on the
piles of corpses
her little eyes
closed forever
her chubby hand
clasping
nothing
not even life

girl
wait in line
with the others
too numb
to try to hide
your naked
flesh from
their cruel
eyes
a number
etched into
your flesh
stark and marking
you all as
cattle

there is no
need to starve
yourself
you are already
starving
making soup
out of dry leaves
and hoping
that will kill
the hopeless
clamoring
in you

the children
the children
you can hear
the gunfire their
bodies splayed
never going to
say 'mama' ever
again

the cattle carts
bring in new faces
still soft from
a previous
life
they still have the
ability to laugh
looking up at
the big smokestacks
pouring out
their hatred

'girl, come here!'
look around
who is he calling?
not me not me
hide your face
feel your unwilling
limbs lead
you out of
line
taste the sooty
air
feel the buzzing
madness
in this man

go up to the hill
with the other
women feel
their dull fear
eyes shiny
like an animal
that has finally
been cornered
after a long
chase

the dead faced
men with guns
you can see them
feel their alien
hunger
taste the hate
that slides off them
in their sweat

down on the ground
the rocks
digging into your
back
what was the name
of that song?
the one you used
to play on the piano
sweating groaning
hatred
plunged between
your legs
feeling as if
you've been
cut in two
your mind
is gone
fire

there is no
god here
