I'm Gabrielle. At least that is the name I go by online. I'm twenty-seven years old and my writing career began at the age of fifteen with the sort of fanfiction that would makes me click the back button these days. They were all prefaced with a complete Pink Floyd or Enrique Iglesias song (back when he only sung in Spanish!) and then my wonderful two page fic. The lyrics were nearly as long as the actual fanfiction!
I didn't always write. I sort of fell into it through a series of misadventures -- my Dawson's Creek fanfiction and a couple of "easy A" writing workshops. I ended up taking more English classes than classes for my major. Eventually I just gave in and switched my major over to Creative Writing. Perhaps not my smartest move but it was a great deal of fun.
When I first started writing poetry it was basically about my experiences with mental illness and it progressed from there. Now I rarely write about my personal experiences, instead opting to write about anything I can imagine. You know that rule about writing only what you know? Toss it out the window because if you write only what you know you're cutting off numerous pathways your writing can go. I write what I know, I write about what I don't know, I write about whatever I feel. Let me tell you, it's not only cutting and Catholicism these days though I'm still nostalgic about Catholicism so hands off. (;
Most of my writing is not housed here because I was published on one of the few occasions I sent my work in and I sort of hold onto a lot of them in case I send them in. Contact me if you want to read what I'm up to these days.
